Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Liam Maguire graduated from the legendary Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California in 2014.
Liam began his musical studies at the age of 3, studying under renowned teachers; Jonathan Derr (Assistant Violin Instructor, Indiana University) and Karlene Wong (Canada National Youth Orchestra and Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra). This led Liam to join the Mississauga Youth Orchestra (MYO) and perform with the group across the GTA. After several years with the MYO Liam continued his studies following acceptance into the Port Credit Regional Strings Program: Advanced Chamber Strings Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Andrew Kizas. During his time with the ensemble Liam became first chair, leading performances across the GTA and the world (Vienna, Austria, and New York City, USA).
Upon completing this program, Liam moved to Los Angeles, California to attend the prestigious Musicians Institute. During his time in the United States Liam shared the stage with, and studied under such greats as Carl Schroeder (Sara Vaughan), Greg Harrison (Hed P.E., P.D.P.), Scott Henderson (Chick Corea Elektric Band), and Alex Macachek (FAT, Virgil Donati). Since returning from California, Liam has been teaching and performing numerous styles of contemporary music including classical, blues, jazz, classic rock, and heavy-metal.
His specialties include improvisation, performance, and combining contemporary techniques with classical knowledge. Recently, Liam was featured on Canadian metal band Decatur’s debut album “Badder than Brooklyn” (Produced by Joe Duplantier of Gojira). Following the release of “Badder than Brooklyn” Liam completed a cross Canada tour in support of the record.
