Frequently Asked Questions About Music Lessons
What age can my child start music lessons?
We welcome students from age 5 and up for all instruments. Piano and drums are the most popular starting instruments for young children, while guitar typically works best from age 6–7 when hands are large enough to hold the instrument comfortably. Voice lessons can begin at age 5 with age-appropriate exercises that protect developing vocal cords. Our $35 trial lesson includes an assessment to confirm your child is ready.
Which instrument should my child start with?
There’s no single right answer — the best instrument is the one your child is excited about. That said, piano provides an excellent musical foundation because it makes music theory visual and develops both hands simultaneously. Guitar is great for children drawn to popular music. Drums suit high-energy kids who love rhythm. Voice requires no equipment purchase at all. If you’re unsure, a trial lesson on the instrument your child is most curious about is the best way to decide.
Do we need to own an instrument before starting?
Not necessarily. For piano, you’ll eventually need a keyboard or piano at home for practice, but you can start lessons first and our instructors will advise on what to buy. For guitar, we provide instruments during trial lessons and can recommend affordable options for home. For drums, a simple practice pad ($30–$50) is all beginners need — no full kit required. For voice, your child already has their instrument.
What’s included in the tuition?
Everything you need to learn: method books, sheet music, theory resources, digital practice tools, and access to professional instruments during lessons. Piano students learn on Essex pianos by Steinway & Sons. Drum students play on professional kits. Voice students receive piano accompaniment. There are no additional material costs at any point.
Do you offer RCM examination preparation?
Yes — RCM preparation is one of our core strengths. Our piano and voice instructors provide structured preparation covering technical requirements, theory, ear training, sight reading, and performance. Our students consistently achieve First Class Honours and Honours with Distinction. See our RCM examination preparation program for details.
How do I get started?
Book a $35 trial lesson on your instrument of choice. There’s no commitment — it’s designed to help you experience our approach and decide if it’s the right fit.
