Art Lessons at Muzart

Art classes at Muzart Music and Art School combine traditional techniques with digital creation to give students a well-rounded foundation in visual arts. Since 2010, our art instructors â€” including three OCAD University graduates — have helped students across the Greater Toronto Area develop real skills in drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, and digital illustration. Whether your child is exploring art for the first time or preparing a portfolio for admission to a competitive arts program, our instructors build a personalized learning plan around their interests and goals.

We provide all art supplies as part of your tuition — professional-grade drawing and painting materials, a take-home art kit, and access to iPad workstations for digital art creation. There are no hidden costs or extra material purchases at any point in the program. Our guide to age-appropriate art projects covers what to expect at each developmental stage.

Our Art Teachers

Our art teaching team brings professional studio practice, formal training, and genuine passion for teaching to every lesson. Three of our four art instructors are OCAD University graduates with active careers as working artists:

  • Avery — Bachelor of Design from OCAD University. Specializes in digital and acrylic portraiture, poster design, and Procreate illustration. Avery’s teaching philosophy focuses on providing foundational “art rules” and encouraging students to break them — fostering abstraction and creative expression at every stage.
  • Abby — Bachelor’s in Drawing and Painting from OCAD University. Professional animator and illustrator with industry experience in 2D digital animation, character design, and concept art. Abby brings a unique perspective for students interested in animation, comics, and visual storytelling.
  • Anita — Bachelor of Fine Arts from OCAD University. Professional exhibiting artist with shows in Toronto and internationally (including Warsaw, Poland). Specializes in figurative work, large-scale oil painting, and classical techniques blended with contemporary approaches. Anita’s instruction is grounded in art history and conceptual development.
  • Lexi — Versatile instructor who brings energy and adaptability to her teaching across multiple mediums and age groups.

Frequently Asked Questions About Art Lessons

Getting Started

How do you track student progress?

We monitor progress through ongoing feedback during lessons, periodic progress reports for parents, and portfolio development that provides a visual record of skill advancement over time. For group class students, we also communicate through regular parent updates and exhibition events. Most students show noticeable improvement in observational accuracy and technique within 3–4 months of consistent weekly instruction.

When should we start portfolio preparation for arts school admissions?

For high school arts programs like ESA and Cawthra Park, we recommend starting portfolio preparation 12–18 months before application deadlines. For post-secondary programs like OCAD University or Humber College, plan for at least one year of preparation. Earlier is always better — it allows time to develop a diverse portfolio showcasing both traditional and digital works without rushing.

Can my child join group art classes mid-year?

Yes. Our curriculum is designed so new students can integrate smoothly at any point. Each class builds individual skills while contributing to overall artistic development, so your child won’t feel behind. The trial class is a great way to experience the group dynamic before committing.
